Obama signs health care bill signed today!

Although unpaid days off suck I will admit that the most exciting and grand things happen when I don't work at my full-time job. I've found $20 on the street, I got to watch the Michael Jackson funeral, I saw my son take his first steps and today I got to watch Obama sign the health care bill. It was pretty uplifting to watch Obama speak with such passion and excitement to pass a bill that has been lingering in the bows of American politics.

While Obama has many followers who will support just about all of his decisions and there are people who are complete opposed to his rule, not many people know what the health care bill really is! While the full effects of the bill will not be completed until 2014, certain parts will take affect this year. Here are some that Obama addressed this morning that will take affect this year:

  • Young adults will be able stay on their parents' insurance until their 27th birthday.
  • Companies would no longer be allowed to deny coverage to sick children.
  • A temporary reinsurance program will help offset costs of coverage for companies that provide early retiree health benefits for those ages 55 to 64.
  • Insurers will not be able to rescind policies to avoid paying medical bills when a person becomes ill.

For a more detailed time line of what the health care bill will offer read more here.

Overall it will affect everyone a little differently. There are some pretty big changes that will undoubtedly make a huge change in American living but sometimes it's the change we need to make for a better future. Only time will tell, but I'm rooting for Obama! Though hopefully he won't sign anymore bills with 20 pens. That took about 5 pens too long.

Kate Gosselin on Dancing With The Stars

Ok so the dancing was super stiff and uninteresting but as the judge said she's not a dancer or an athlete...so why is she on the show?? And I'm sorry she can claim she's just a mom who's been on tv but she sucks up the attention and stardom more than my Scooba does dirt and dust.

To celebrate or not to celebrate, that's the question.

So my son just turned one in March and there was a huge debate as to if I was going to throw him his first birthday party. Considering my family is in NY and all of my friends are grown ups it seemed that there was no debate that we would have a small party of just my son, my boyfriend and I. Although we bought Leito some toys and clothes for his birthday, they still seemed slightly un-birthday like since he was with us while they were purchased.

So my question is: are first birthdays for the baby or for the mother?

I definitely believe that they are more so for us than for them. We had to carry them around for 10 months and then we had to raise them for one year. It is an amazing accomplishment that even though the babies will never remember we will.

I asked a few mothers their thoughts regarding hosting a first birthday party and had many different answers. Some moms said they will not have a party, some moms said they will have a party and will invite the neighborhood babies, some said they will have a party but just with family members. I will admit, if I had some friends with babies I would've thrown him a small party as well but you take what you can get right?

What would/have you done? Did you throw a party or was the baby THE party?

Christian Siriano designs shoe line for Payless

Ok so if you have followed Project Runway's Christian Siriano, you will know that his winning was the plateau of his success as not only has he started to design clothes for many celebrities but he has also participated in many fashion functions and has co-host tv programs. Well since the fall this fashion prince has a design line at Payless! The prices seem to be pretty reasonable for Payless, ranging from $25-$80.

Farrah Fawcett Oscar Update!

So apparently Farrah Fawcett wasn't forgotten in the Oscars, she just wasn't important enough to mention. While the Academy is getting much flack for leaving Fawcett out of the In Memoriam, they have said that their reasoning is that not everyone can be mentioned. Why don't we take a look at some of the mentioned they cared to mention:

Monte Hale (Who?)
Michael Jackson (Because he was such an amazing "actor")
Army Archerd (Oh, that famous actor! No he was a columnist. Hmm...)
Betsy Blair (Who can forget Betsy Blair? You know she was in that one movie...with that guy.)
Brittany Murphy (Who was young and pretty....kind of like Farrah was when she first started acting.)
Tullio Pinelli (Passed away at the ripe age of 100 and wrote many movies with names I cannot pronounce.)

Judging by the people who were on this list, they were all either 80+ or they were young and sexy and died tragically. So obviously she should have been 81 or have died even more tragically than with that silly old colon cancer.

Sorry Farrah. You will live in the rest of our memories.

Silver Martini

Here is a great combination of juice and vodka to make a tasty drink!
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1-ounce vodka
  • 1-ounce silver rum
  • 1/2-ounce pineapple juice
  • 1/2-ounce white grape juice
  • 1/2-ounce pink lemonade
Place sugar in a small saucer.Dip the rim of the Martini glass in water and press rim into the sugar to coat.Mix all ingredients, except caviar or salmon egg roe, in a shaker. The original recipe also includes 1/2 teaspoon caviar or salmon egg roe but that's up to you! You would put the caviar on the bottom of the glass and pour the drink over the caviar. If anyone tries this do let me know how it tastes!

Girls rule! The Oscars are all about the ladies!

With huge such great movies and actors/actresses being nominated, the girls stole the show! With super sparkly dresses to fancy hair-dos girls dominated the awards show by taking some of the biggest noms out there. From Mo'Nique winning Best Supporting Actress, to Sandra Bullock stealing the Best Actress award to Kathryn Bigelow beating out her ex-hubby James Cameron and winning the Best Director as well as sweeping away tons of awards for The Hurt Locker the girls definitely stole the show this year!

Did ya forget someone Academy?

With all the late greats that were announced during the Oscars tonight then happened to overlook that one small, itty bitty actress. You know, that no name Farrah Fawcett.

Who is this Farrah Fawcett you might ask? Oh she was just one of the biggest actresses in the 70's who's poor death was overshadowed by that of Michael Jackson who they DID mention for his outstanding acting skills in the video Thriller. We all get that he was a great performer but I mean the woman was in movies, sitcoms and put up a fight with anal cancer. But who remembers all that?

Bad form Academy, bad form.

Mo'Nique is a Precious winner!

So not only was Mo'Nique nominated for tons of awards, she walked away with the big one- an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress! You go girl!

Michael Jackon's children vs. Jaafar Jackson

Wait, wasn't Jaafar the bad guy in the movie Aladdin?

Apparently the name maintains it's infamous reputation now that Jaafar Jackson, son of Jermaine Jackson decided that with his allowance he was going to buy a stun gun. Reports are saying that young Jaafar tested the stun gun on a piece of paper while by himself in a bathroom and that none of the MJ clan was around when it went off.

Even with this being the case family services did come to the Jackson residence to investigate and are probing the incident. Being almost a year later since Michael Jackson died this is definitely one unneeded stress and attention that is coming towards these poor kids.

Gossip! Saved By The Baby Bells!

So look who's getting on the baby wagon- it's Tiffani-Amber Thiessen! That's right Kelly Kapowski is due to have a baby this spring!

Mo'Nique says OK to cheating? Whaaaa?

As per recent news, when Mo'Nique was interviewed by Barbara Walters she admitted that she and her husband have been together for over 25 years and because of this she does not care if he cheats on her.

Some guys just got it too good I suppose.

Who wore it best: Heidi Klum or Jennifer Lopez?

Both of these moms are working this Louis-Vuitton dress to the fullest, but who wore it best? Don't forget to vote on our poll!

Basil Martini Recipe! Yum!

Yea, spring is on the way!! Time to start preparing those sweet and light cocktails to toast to warmth. Here is a simple recipe that uses one of my favorite cooking ingredients- basil!

Here are the ingredients and instructions:
  • 2oz gin
  • 1oz lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves
Throw all into a cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes or crushed ice if you're posh. Shake for all your worth and pour into glass.

Gossip! Jealous Jon Makes for Juicy Gossip

So as we have all heard Kate will be tearing up the dance floor on Dancing With The Stars, because she's a huge star, by the way. Well apparently this isn't ringing too well for poor Jon because as per US Weekly while Kate is off working on her two step, nannies will be watching her spawn (I mean kids) versus their father taking care of them. The man is barely making any money now, has been publicly disgraced, and now he can't even spend a little more time with his kids? Someone give the dog a bone and let him see his kids!

Now that I think of it, does anyone really know what he does for money anymore? When he stated the show he used to be an IT Analyst. Apparently since the show he has become "too famous" to gain any regular jobs and he is being taken to court by TLC for unapproved appearances. Whoops.

Don't feel too bad for the unemployed dad though. He still generates money from the shows DVD sales as well as writing books and doing some speaking engagements. Perhaps they are about the sanctity of marriage and family. I wonder if Tiger Woods will be there, too?
