Grilling on a plank

While salmon has been the long partner of the plank there are other foods that are just as tasty such as chicken, pork and even veggies. In choosing a plank, pick only untreated cedar, alder, hickory, or maple. Here are a few other tips to ensure plank-grilling success:
  • Prepare the plank by soaking it at least one hour in a bucket or cooler filled with water. This adds moisture to the wood and prevents it from burning on the grill.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of salt or 1 cup of white wine, apple juice, citrus, or berry juice to the soaking water to accent wood aromas.
  • If a plank is being used for the first time, season it by placing it on a preheated grill for 2 minutes, turning once. Lightly toasting the plank on both sides will intensify its smoky flavor and prevent warping. When the plank starts crackling, it's ready for cooking.
  • Place marinated or ready-to-cook foods directly on the plank. Keep the grill's lid closed as much as possible to maintain temperatures and maximize smoking. Note: planked food does not have to be turned during grilling.
  • Keep a spray bottle filled with water handy so flames can be extinguished if the plank starts to burn.

These boots are made for ....men?

While girls predominately sport many different high heels it does not exempt men from occasionally rocking the pump. Not only is it a huge fad in Europe for men to wear the, there are many stores that even sell high heels shoes in men sizes. Here, my friends, are some interesting takes on men in heels:

Types of shoes men wear:
Cowboy boots

Beatle boots

Winklepicker boots
(Guys might not wear them if they knew this is what they are called. They probably just call them the boots with straps.)

Cuban heels

Famous heel wearing men:

Prince

KISS

Motley Crue

RuPaul
(of course)
And then here my searching took a scary turn and went from hot guys in cool shoes to strange guys in great heels.

Go here for more of this gent in heels. Caution! While photos have no nudity they are loaded with hilarity.

Moms Love High Heels

Source: Spa Resorts

It is definitely an ongoing discussion as to the benefits and downfalls to wearing high heels but come on, with all the amazing styles and colors there is no ache that a little foot rub or soak can't solve. As a back up here are some reasons for wearing high-heels:

  • they change the angle of the foot with respect to the lower leg, which accentuates the appearance of calves
  • they change the wearer's posture, requiring a more upright carriage and altering the gait in what is considered a seductive fashion
  • they make the wearer appear taller
  • they make the legs appear longer
  • they make the foot appear smaller
  • they make the toes appear shorter
  • they make the arches of the feet higher and better defined
  • they make the lower leg muscles more defined
  • they make the gluteus maximus more defined
  • they may improve the tone of a woman's pelvic floor

    Greenest Cities in the U.S.

With everyone trying to preserve our sweet Mother Nature which cities are doing it the best. Here is a list of the top 10 cities in the states that are proving to be the greenest according to to MNN.

     10 - Austin, Texas
As the gateway to the scenic Texas Hill Country, acreage in Austin that's devoted to green space includes 206 parks, 12 preserves, 26 greenbelts and more than 50 miles of trails.

    9 - Chicago, Illinois

This greening of the city continues through the Chicago Green Roof Program. More than 2.5 million square feet of city roofs support plant life — including Willis Tower (formerly called Sears Tower) and the city hall building.

    8 - Seattle, Washington

Through an incentive program, residents are encouraged to install solar panels on their homes for energy conservation.

     7 - Berkeley, Calif

Berkeley is recognized as a leader in the incubation of clean technology for wind power, solar power, biofuels and hydropower.

    6 - Cambridge, Mass.

In 2002, city officials implemented a major climate protection plan and today most city vehicles are fueled by B20 biodiesel or electricity. All new construction or major renovations must meet LEED standards.

    5 - Eugene, Oregon
Cycling is the preferred mode of transportation, made possible by the 30 miles of off-street bike paths and 29 dedicated bike routes, which total a whopping 150 miles of smog-free travel throughout the metro area.

    4 - Oakland, California

Residents of this port city have access to an abundance of fresh, organic food, much of which is locally sourced. It's also home to the nation's cleanest tap water, hydrogen-powered public transit and the country's oldest wildlife refuge.

     3 - Boston, Massachusetts

Boston ranks high among the urban green elite. Sustainability efforts include a "Green by 2015" goal to replace traditional taxi cabs with hybrid vehicles, recycle trash to power homes, use more solar panels, and use more electric motorbikes for transportation.

    2 - San Francisco, California

San Francisco is also the first U.S. city to ban plastic grocery bags, a concept that supports its effort to divert 75 percent of landfill waste by 2010.

     1 - Portland, Oregon

Declared the most bikeable city in the United States for its 200 miles of dedicated bike lanes, Portland certainly makes forgoing gas-powered travel easy.
