Obama signs health care bill signed today!

Although unpaid days off suck I will admit that the most exciting and grand things happen when I don't work at my full-time job. I've found $20 on the street, I got to watch the Michael Jackson funeral, I saw my son take his first steps and today I got to watch Obama sign the health care bill. It was pretty uplifting to watch Obama speak with such passion and excitement to pass a bill that has been lingering in the bows of American politics.

While Obama has many followers who will support just about all of his decisions and there are people who are complete opposed to his rule, not many people know what the health care bill really is! While the full effects of the bill will not be completed until 2014, certain parts will take affect this year. Here are some that Obama addressed this morning that will take affect this year:

  • Young adults will be able stay on their parents' insurance until their 27th birthday.
  • Companies would no longer be allowed to deny coverage to sick children.
  • A temporary reinsurance program will help offset costs of coverage for companies that provide early retiree health benefits for those ages 55 to 64.
  • Insurers will not be able to rescind policies to avoid paying medical bills when a person becomes ill.

For a more detailed time line of what the health care bill will offer read more here.

Overall it will affect everyone a little differently. There are some pretty big changes that will undoubtedly make a huge change in American living but sometimes it's the change we need to make for a better future. Only time will tell, but I'm rooting for Obama! Though hopefully he won't sign anymore bills with 20 pens. That took about 5 pens too long.

Kate Gosselin on Dancing With The Stars

Ok so the dancing was super stiff and uninteresting but as the judge said she's not a dancer or an athlete...so why is she on the show?? And I'm sorry she can claim she's just a mom who's been on tv but she sucks up the attention and stardom more than my Scooba does dirt and dust.

To celebrate or not to celebrate, that's the question.

So my son just turned one in March and there was a huge debate as to if I was going to throw him his first birthday party. Considering my family is in NY and all of my friends are grown ups it seemed that there was no debate that we would have a small party of just my son, my boyfriend and I. Although we bought Leito some toys and clothes for his birthday, they still seemed slightly un-birthday like since he was with us while they were purchased.

So my question is: are first birthdays for the baby or for the mother?

I definitely believe that they are more so for us than for them. We had to carry them around for 10 months and then we had to raise them for one year. It is an amazing accomplishment that even though the babies will never remember we will.

I asked a few mothers their thoughts regarding hosting a first birthday party and had many different answers. Some moms said they will not have a party, some moms said they will have a party and will invite the neighborhood babies, some said they will have a party but just with family members. I will admit, if I had some friends with babies I would've thrown him a small party as well but you take what you can get right?

What would/have you done? Did you throw a party or was the baby THE party?

Happy Birthday to my sweet little prince, he turned one today! I can remember him being so itty bitty and now he's big boy walking/running around the house and eating my pizza. So cute!

...now only if I could get him to say "Momma"...
